Shattered by a world of disappointments and confusion, the mother of two reached her breaking point and decided that life was no longer worth living. Plagued by sexual abuse, emotional abuse, rejection, broken relationships, and the pressures of life, her silent screams became too loud to bear. Although she appeared fine to those who judged her on the outside, she desperately tried to escape the silent screams she thought no one else heard. Feeling useless and without purpose, she contemplated ways to commit suicide to end her shattered and broken life. Driving to the Tar River Bridge with plans to jump, in an effort to end her silent screams, the image of what this thought would do to her children gave her the strength to call on a much higher power, Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world.

Katrina Lavette’ Sweet is an energetic motivational speaker with a genuine passion for women and youth. Her once tortured and defeated life drives her to spend the majority of her time advocating for youth and being a voice for those who are living an underprivileged and defeated life. Katrina earned a BA in Criminal Justice from North Carolina Wesleyan College, a MPA in Public Administration, at Keller Graduate School of Management, and she is currently pursuing her PhD in General Organization and Management at Capella University. She currently resides in North Carolina and is the proud mother of two.
